Register voters: become a VDR 

• To help register voters in Texas, you must be certified as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar in the county where the voters reside.
• Start by attending training and becoming a VDR in one county. Contact the county Elections Office to schedule a time, or contact our Voter Services coordinator for more information.
  • If you prefer to take the training online, Harris County and Travis County currently offer online training.
• Once you are a VDR in one county, you can request certification in other counties by showing your VDR certificate at their Elections Office. Always call each Elections Office before visiting, as some require appointments.
• Please let us know in which counties you are a VDR:
  • Go to the "Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars" section of your member interests page
  • Check off the counties where you're certified and click "Save" at the bottom of the page, so we can connect you with other VDRs and with voter registration opportunities and events!

Observe government: join our Observer Corps 

• The League of Women Voters' Observer Corps are designed to bring "sunshine" -- openness and transparency -- to local government.
• Observer Corps members attend public meetings of local government bodies, take notes, and report back to LWV and the community.
• Locally, Observer Corps members follow bodies like County Commissioners' Court, City Council, School Board, or utility district boards.
• Interested in joining the Observer Corps and observing a government body in your area?
  • Go to the "Civic Actions" section of your member interests page
  •  Check "Observer Corps" and click "Save" at the bottom of the page to join other members already in the Observer Corps Interest Group.

Volunteer with the League of Women Voters 

• We also need volunteers to help with:
  • Writers, editors, photographers and graphic artists/illustrators to create content for the website, items for our newsletter, and/or posts for social media
    
  • Civic education programs in local high schools and for community organizations
  • Language access: written translation, real-time interpreting (Spanish or ASL), and transcription (English)
