Register to Vote

Need to submit or update your Texas voter registration? Here's what you need to know.

New voter registration 

  • To register to vote, you must:
    • Be a United States citizen and a resident of the county where you submit the application
    • Be 18 years of age by Election Day (you can register up to two months before your 18th birthday)
    • Not be a convicted felon (you may re-register to vote once you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole)
  • Texas does not have a fully-online registration for those registering for the first time.
    • You can pick up a voter registration form at many libraries, post offices, and other public buildings. Fill it out and mail it in. OR
    • You can start online with the League's voter registration tool at Vote411. You'll be mailed a form that you can then sign and submit. OR
    • Contact our Voter Services coordinator and one of our Volunteer Deputy Registrars will personally help you get registered in your county.

Updating your voter registration 

  • If you need to update your name or address but still reside in the same county:
    • You may update your voter registration online,OR
    • You may correct your information on the back of your voter card and mail it back to your county's Voter Registrar, OR
    • You may follow the steps above to submit a new voter registration form.
  • If you have moved from one Texas county to another:
    • You may now update your driver's license and voter registration online at the same time, OR
    • You may follow the steps above to submit a new voter registration form.
  • If you have moved to Texas, welcome! Follow the steps above to submit a new voter registration form.

You can help your neighbors get registered to vote by becoming a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar in your county and/or other Texas counties.
